Healthy Habits: Home Care Can Help Your Father Maintain Better Health and Safety Habits

Healthy Habits: Decent health and safety habits are something most of us should be more diligent about.

When we are rushing around from place to place, most of the time we neglect our health and safety. For somebody of advancing years, perhaps like your father, that’s not a good thing. In fact, if an elderly person is not paying attention to their healthy habits, is not being diligent to do what is necessary to stay safe in the comfort of their own home, accidents are far more likely to happen.

Even though your father may not need a great deal of support right now, a home care aide could be exactly what he needs to continue staying safe well into the future.

Why would your father need a home care agency at this stage in his life?

He might still do just about everything by himself, but if you’ve noticed him slowing down, having difficulty with his balance, slow to get up from a seated position, struggling to walk up and downstairs, or anything like that, a home care agency is something to discuss.

A home care aide could help your father with a wide range of tasks around the house. Your father can still do those things, but if a home care aide is assisting him when you or other family members are unavailable, it can provide another layer of benefit.

What could a home care aide offer that you can’t?

Even if you live close to your father, you probably have a lot of things in your life to take care of. Maybe raising children of your own, a career, a couple of part-time jobs, and other responsibilities. You might not be able to be there for your father every time he needs help.

That’s when a home care aide can make a world of difference. A quality, experienced home care agency can assist your father in purchasing healthy groceries each week. It might be something you do, but what about meal preparation?

It’s far too easy to grab frozen meals, but those processed foods are not healthy. They don’t have the vitamin and mineral content that fresh, homemade foods have. That means your father would not be getting the kind of nutrition that would benefit him at this age.

Also, a home care aide can help him exercise.

While you may think exercise or certain activities are the wrong things for him to do, if his doctor has encouraged him to exercise and increase his heart rate for at least 15 minutes each day, have you been able to do that with him?

Maybe, but maybe not. A home care agency, somebody who is supporting your father on a consistent schedule, can be there at the same time each day of the week or each day every week to help him exercise, whether it’s going for a walk or something else so he can get exercise and stay fit and strong.

Nothing compares to home care to help improve healthy habits and safety for aging seniors, including your father.
